Lamorinda CERT

When a disaster strikes Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda could be cut off from the Bay  Area for weeks. The Lamorinda Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) teaches critical skills that help survive the disaster and its aftermath. Please join Lamorinda CERT!

Lamorinda DART (Disaster Animal Response Team)

Lamorinda DART is part of Lamorinda CERT (Community Emergency Response Team). Our mission is to assist animals and their guardians during a disaster. We set up shelters and provide animal handling and search and rescue services to the 400 CERT volunteers who are your first responders. We deploy for local, regional or state animal emergencies to assist animals and their guardians. Our partners are the Pet Emergency Preparedness Team (Contra Costa Animal Services), Noah's Wish and other DARTs in Contra Costa.

DART LogoPet ID tags that list pertinent information, such as your name and telephone number, are crucial so rescuers can more quickly reunite you with your pet if you become separated. Your cell phone number and/or the number of where you're planning to go is a good idea to be able to track you down quicker should you and your pet become separated.

    No Animal Left Behind

During disasters people and animals die. Sometimes these deaths are unavoidable. But often, much too often, the loss of life was preventable. Some of the reasons: no or insufficient preparations on the part of the animal owners, no or insufficient help from local authorities for people who want to evacuate with their animals, first responders who are unable to come to the help of the animals. People need to realize that in a disaster their animals will die, unless they save them or find someone to save the animals for them.

Lamorinda DART wants to create a support infrastructure that will help avoid needless deaths of humans and other animals. Ideally, all animal owners will evacuate with their animals. We want to make sure that in future disasters no animal will be left behind...
